Enercon

Wind Turbines

Enercon's 68.8-meter-long blades are manufactured at the TPI Blade Factory in Izmir, using epoxy-based infusion resins produced by DURATEK.

As part of the  YEKA 2 (Renewable Energy Zones) tender for wind, organized in 2019, four 250 MW Wind Power Plant (WPP) projects were auctioned to be established in the provinces of Aydın, Muğla, Balıkesir, and Çanakkale, with Enercon and EnerjiSA companies winning two projects each. In 2022, these two companies signed a protocol among themselves, agreeing that Enercon would handle the technology aspect of the total 1,000 MW project, while EnerjiSA would manage the investment and operation. The first excavation for the project is scheduled for 2024, with complete operationalization planned by 2026.

Considering that as of today, Turkey's total installed wind energy capacity is 12 GW, the scale of the 1 GW project becomes evident. The total investment cost of the project is 1.2 Billion USD. The project aims to prevent 2.2 million tons of carbon emissions. The Enercon E 138 turbines to be used in this project have a rotor diameter of 138 m and blade length of 66.8 m, capable of producing up to 4.2 MW of energy. The production of the turbines' blades began at the TPI factory in Menemen, Izmir, starting from the beginning of 2023. All the epoxy-based infusion lamination systems used in the composite manufacturing for this project are produced by DURATEK. Thus, DURATEK has become the first and only domestic company to serially produce epoxy-based lamination systems in accordance with APQP standards used in the wind energy industry.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023, DURATEK and its sister companies are the first in Turkey to produce epoxy-based resin and hardener systems. DURATEK manufactures epoxy-based lamination resins suitable for different production methods such as hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, vacuum infusion, RTM, filament winding, pultrusion, and centrifugal casting for the composite industry. DURATEK's lamination systems are used in many composite sectors, including marine vehicles, defense industry, wind energy, pipe and tank production, and automotive. With its latest investments in 2023, DURATEK increased its production capacity to 25,000 tons, positioning itself to competitively meet the needs of other wind OEMs.
